Waste / Recycling Program
TOWN OF LYNNFIELD WASTE/RECYCLING PROGRAM

 

The Town of Lynnfield is contracted with JRM Hauling & Recycling to pick-up the following:

image010.gif*”Large Bulk Item” meaning furniture or other items of similar size weighing less than (150) lbs. Not including items which are prohibited from collection or disposal by Government Regulations (DEP, EPA etc).

Residential customers shall place regular weekly refuse in durable watertight containers or plastic bags of sufficient strength to prevent failings.  Each container or bag shall not exceed thirty (30) gallon capacity or (75) pounds in weight or a volume in excess of (30) liquid gallons. 


image011.gifTrash/recycling must be curbside by 7:00 a.m. the morning of collection.  All daily routes will be completed by 7:00 p.m..

Any container that has any yard waste or construction material mixed in with weekly trash will not be collected.

No person shall place any material, at the curbside or in municipal collected containers, which is listed as a restricted material in the Massachusetts Solid Waste Contract (310 CMR 19.017).

 
         Prohibited Material Includes:

          Recyclables
          Leaves & Yard Waste
          Batteries & Whole Tires
          White Goods
          Cathode Ray Tubes (TV’s, computer monitors and scientific instruments)

The Town of Lynnfield at this time does not have a mandatory recycling program, however the Town will no longer pick-up any visible recyclable with refuse.  The Town offers bi-weekly recycling which is unlimited and does not cost the Town any additional fees for proper disposal.

The Town offers one annual Household Hazardous Waste Day Event that residents should take advantage of.  The next event will take place in November 2010.

The Town offers drop off brush and leaf collection for residents that have purchased a current (2010) passenger car recycling sticker to access behind the Town Hall complex.  The sticker needs to be purchased each year in order to use the recycling area.  This sticker is for Lynnfield residents only and must be attached to the front lower driver’s side windshield.  Stickers are valid from July 1st to June 30th each year.

1. What are some of the solid waste items I can dispose of in my trash?

Solid Waste includes besides your normal household garbage some of the following items:

Linoleum
Mattresses
Box Springs
Beds
Chairs
Couches
Tables
Other household items not excessive in weight or bulk which can be handled by two men.

 
2. What items are considered “unacceptable waste?”

Some of the unacceptable waste items that will not be picked up during normal trash pick up are as follows:

Demolition debris
Whole or partial auto parts, engine blocks, transmissions
Machinery
Ski mobile
Motorcycles
Lawn mowers
Tractors
Other waste which has metal as its basic material
Stumps, limbs, branches, leaves, grass clipping or other yard waste
Pathological waste
Animal carcasses
Toxic and volatile chemicals
Explosives
Lead batteries and tires
White goods (such as refrigerators, washing machines, dryers, hot water heaters, etc.
Aluminum, metal or glass containers
Single polymer plastics

3.  What happens when my trash day falls on a Holiday?

Whenever a scheduled collection day falls on a holiday, that day’s collection and all remaining collections for the week will be delayed one day. Friday’s collection will be on Saturday. Holidays are as listed:

4.  What happens with trash collection during inclement weather like a snow storm?

Rain and ordinary snow will not cause omissions of the collection of trash or recyclables.

Collections may be omitted only under extreme weather conditions such as blanketing snow storms, hurricanes and the like.  Check the DPW website or call the DPW office at 781-334-9500 to see if trash collection is suspended for that day.

 
Please remember JRM is not responsible to free frozen trash or to wade through snow-filled or un-cleared path.


5.  What is the Towns Recycling Collection Program and how do I prepare my items for pick up?

        The Town has a bi-weekly (every other week) curb side collection program in which JRM collects acceptable recyclables, the same day as your normal trash is picked up, in clearly marked recyclable containers. Acceptable containers are either the    Town issued blue bins or barrels with town issued recycling stickers clearly marked on all sides of the container. New residents are issued (1) new blue recycling bin at no cost. Recycling stickers are issued at not cost at any time.
        Recycling items for pick up must be prepared in the following manner:

        Newspaper- Not loose. Must be tied or in brown paper bags.

        Cardboard- Must be folded or cut no larger than (3) foot square piles and MUST be tied. There are also (3) cardboard dumpsters located at the Town Hall for residents who would like to drop off their cardboard boxes and other large cardboard                                   items.

        Plastic, Metal, Glass- Placed CLEAN in blue Lynnfield recycling bins or stickered containers


6.   What items are considered "Acceptable Recyclables"?

        Acceptable recyclables include:

        * cardboard                     * telephone books                               * aluminum
        * newspaper                     * catalogs                                              * tin & mixed metal cans
        * quality paper                 * magazines                                     * aerosol cans
        * junk mail                             * green, brown, & clear glass           * type 1-7 plastic containers


7.   How do I get rid of large white goods, air conditioners, T.V.'s etc?

        The Town has a curb side collection program on the third week of each month. Each item MUST display a recycling sticker issued by the Town of Lynnfield Department of Public Works. Stickers need to be purchased PRIOR to your trash collection        day on the third week of every month so that JRM can pick up your item in a separate collection vehicle. Stickers are $25 per item. The yard waste recycling Center does not accept any items other than brush and leaves.


8.   My blue recycling bin is damaged, how do I get a new one?

        All new residents are issued (1) new blue "Town of Lynnfield" recycling bin. If your bin is damaged then you need to bring the damaged bin to the Public works Office where a new bin will be issued.


9.   Can I get a second or third blue LYNNFIELD recycling bin?  11152010_20408_0.jpg

        If you need an additional recycling bins then you can purchase them for $7 each at the DPW Office. You may also request a round "recycling sticker", at no cost,  that you can attach to any barrel. JRM will only pick up recyclables in either the blue bins or barrels displaying the white round recycling sticker.
