Information on COVID-19 coronavirus

March 10, 2020

To the Lynnfield Community:

The Town of Lynnfield is taking steps to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) by adopting best practices as information is provided by the Center for Disease Control, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and other local and regional agencies.

In addition to the usual cleaning measures, the Department of Public Works has added new specific protocols for the daily cleaning of shared surfaces such as doorknobs, railings, counters and washrooms. The DPW has specific response protocols if alerted by a school nurse or other Town official of concerns about a specific classroom or public area.

The Lynnfield Emergency Management team will provide daily updates to department heads regarding any new information or protocols. Any information about program postponements or cancellations or any other measures undertaken by Town departments in relation to this public health emergency will be shared in these daily updates.

The Lynnfield Emergency Management Team is also developing plans and protocols should more extensive measures need to be adopted.

The public will be kept informed of all information via the Town’s website www.town.lynnfield.ma.us and the Town of Lynnfield Facebook page.  Should a Town-wide notice be necessary, it will be provided to residents through the CodeRed emergency alert system. Residents who have not signed up for these alerts can do so by clicking on the CodeRed logo on the Town’s web page.

Residents and Town employees will be provided information on how they can keep themselves healthy and measures they should take if they are feeling ill or may have had contact with someone diagnosed with the coronavirus or who may have had exposure to the virus.

Families of school-aged children are encouraged to continue to keep their children home if they show any signs of illness, including the common cold or flu-like symptoms. Parents and guardians should also remember to contact their school if their child will be absent due to illness.
