Chair Barrett saluted the players and their coaches and read the citations aloud. ‘‘The biggest thing we get out of hockey is seeing the kids smile,” said Mr. Barrett, quoting hockey legend Bobby Orr.  He also noted that Brianna Decker, an accomplished female hockey player who has won multiple gold medals and national championships, said “Don’t let anyone take confidence away from you.”

Girls team manager Julie Mitchell listed the names of the team members and coaches. The team won the championship by defeating Austin Prep by a score of 11-2 in the final game. She thanked the Board on behalf of the team. She said the year was made difficult due to the COVID-19 restrictions and the loss of a fellow hockey player from Andover as well as a fellow Lynnfield Middle School student. “This season was really special,” said Mitchell. “Thank you to the Select Board for having us and recognizing the accomplishment of these incredibly talented athletes.”

The team consists of eighth-graders Ella Gould, Chloe Gromko and Sarah Powers along with seventh-grader Lilly Alves. COVID-19 update

Town Administrator Robert Dolan and Fire Chief and Emergency Management Director Glenn Davis provided a brief COVID update. Chief Davis said that the Town has been fortunate to receive vaccine doses and has vaccinated its first responders and administered a first does to 78 residents age 75 and older, as well as 117 in the second group of age 65 and older and those with two comorbidities. He said that Fire Department paramedics and school nurses administered the doses. Second doses have been confirmed for recipients of those clinics. Doses have been made available for smaller clinics for residents of all senior housing developments under the Lynnfield Housing Authority and LIFE, Inc.

Mr. Dolan said the Town is moving in the right direction and students are returning to school. He urged continued vigilance. Mr. Dalton said he attended this morning’s Emergency Management Team meeting and said that there are a lot of contributors. Mr. Barrett and Mr. Crawford also thanked team members for their efforts. He said the hiring of Toni Rebello, a nurse practitioner, and public health nurse Sandy Wilson have handled contact tracing and advising on community and school exposures. Mr. Barrett said that they have been wonderful resources for Lynnfield families coping with COVID-19. Chief Davis said it is truly a team approach. Mr. Dolan said the cleanliness of the schools has been incredible, crediting the school custodians as unsung heroes.
