Lynnfield ConCom has recently purchased an important land parcel at 70 Walnut Street. The site of the historically significant former Gerry’s Cider Mill, the property is also an environmentally sensitive parcel. An active above-ground stream bisects the property, connecting Pillings Pond via Mill Pond, and flowing through to Reedy Meadow and on to the Saugus River. Although not a buildable lot, the property had long been under private ownership.

Planning and Conservation Director Emilie Cademartori will oversee a formal survey of the property in the Spring so that ConCom markers can be installed. Additionally, invasive plants will be assessed so that the property’s trees can be saved.

“The Commission is pleased with this purchase”, notes Cademartori. “Acquiring this property serves two important goals – the acquisition of additional open space in the town, and the continued protection of Lynnfield’s wetlands and waterways. Both are approved goals in the town’s 2010 Open Space & Recreation Plan.”
