At their February 27, 2023 meeting, the Select Board received an updated presentation of the Lynnfield Visioning Plan titled “Lynnfield 2040 Shaping Our Future Today”.

With the support of the Select Board, the Visioning Plan project is being developed by planning consultant Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) working under the direction of the Planning Board. MAPC Project Manager Andrea Harris-Long provided the briefing.

The Visioning Plan is designed to be a high-level plan that could ultimately function as a first step in the development of a more comprehensive Master Plan for the town. (The last Master Plan was developed in 2002.)

The Visioning Plan is a community-driven process to shape how Lynnfield should look, feel and operate as a community over the next 10 to 20 years. Ultimately, it should provide a strategic framework for future public decision-making and investments.

This Visioning Plan effort will first capture and analyze existing conditions, then engage in extensive community engagement to receive input from residents and stakeholders as to their views and desires for Lynnfield’s future. The Plan is slated to be finalized in Fall, 2023.

Select Board Chair Phil Crawford noted that the Visioning Plan “doesn’t just support the work that we are doing, it defines the work that we are doing.” He further noted that it is time for an updated plan, particularly in light of the number of young families that are moving into town. Select Board member Joe Connell added that public engagement will be well-timed for this Spring. Member Dick Dalton agreed with Connell and added that the “biggest challenge” is community engagement.

As this Visioning Plan effort is developed, Harris-Long noted that the community can expect an inclusive and transparent process with various ways to stay informed and become involved.
