Mission Statement
The mission of the Public Works Department is to maintain, preserve, and protect the infrastructure resources of the Town in the most efficient and effective manner possible; to provide guidance and assistance to all citizens of the community regarding the development and protection of property; to provide clean, healthy and safe schools and municipal buildings; provide reliable and safe school bus transportation; work with the Recreation Committee and the various athletic groups to maintain our parks and playgrounds for the betterment of youth sports; promote increased residential recycling; and represent the Town in a professional manner.
Department Function
The Department provides a broad base of services for the community through its divisions of Administration, Engineering, Highway, Cemetery/Parks/Playgrounds/Trees, and Facilities Maintenance. Its major activities include construction and maintenance of streets, storm drains, street lighting, maintenance of all school and municipal buildings and grounds, engineering and contract administration of public improvements, school busing, environmental compliance, snow and ice control, advance planning, review of design and construction of public/private development, operation and maintenance of Pillings Pond Dam, trash removal and recycling services, cemetery interments/deeds, tree maintenance, and ADA compliance.
