Dog Licenses & Information

2019 Dog tags are available in the Town Clerk's office.  Registering your dog is a MGL (Chapter 140, Section 137)

ONLINE DOG LICENSE REGISTRATION! - Any dog licenses processed on line, the dog tag will be mailed to you once payment has been confirmed.

NOTE:  The Town Clerk's office accepts online payments for a variety of services through our online payment partners. You have two (2) options for paying; either by electronic check or by credit card.  Electronic Check: There will be a $0.25 processing fee assessed for all electronic check payments. You will need one of your checks with you when you pay for an online service to get your account number and the bank’s routing number from it. You will be shown where this information is on your check.  Credit Card: We accept MasterCard, VISA, American Express, and Discover credit/debit for credit card payments. There will be a convenience fee for each online payment. The credit card service provider charges the fee to your credit card. Lynnfield Online Dog License

If you would like to register your dog in person, or through the mail, please download the dog licensing application, which is listed below.  If you register your dog in person, we can accept cash, checks or credit / debit cards (there is a convenience fee for credit / debit card processing)


According to Massachusetts General Laws, the owner or keeper of a dog over the age of 6 months shall obtain a license for the dog from the Town Clerk.  The owner of the dog needs to provide the Town Clerk with a veterinary certification that the dog was vaccinated for rabies.  If the dog has not been registered in Lynnfield prior to this year, or is newly altered, a copy of the certificate or receipt from the veterinarian who spayed or neutered the dog must also be included.  Please refer to M.G. L. Chapter 140, Sections 136A – 174E for more details regarding these requirements.

Fees per dog: 

  • Spayed/Neutered - $10
  • Not Spayed/Not Neutered - $15
  • Owner over age 70 - no charge with proof of age.

Kennel Fees

The owner or keeper of a pack or collection of more than four dogs, three months old or older, on a single premises shall obtain one of the below types of kennel licenses, as defined in MGL c. 140, § 136A, and pay the required annual fee.

Commercial boarding / training kennel

  • 4 Dog or less / $100
  • 5 to 10 dogs / $200
  • 11 or more / $300                   

Commercial breeder kennel     

  • 4 Dog or less / $100
  • 5 to 10 dogs / $200
  • 11 or more / $300

Domestic charitable corporation kennel  - No fee if incorporated exclusively for purposes outlined in MGL c. 140, § 137A(c).

Personal kennel           

  • 4 Dog or less / $40
  • 5 to 10 dogs / $100
  • 11 or more / $200                                                                

Veterinary kennels             

  • 4 Dog or less / $100
  • 5 to 10 dogs / $200
  • 11 or more / $300                                                                

~   A kennel license shall be in lieu of licensing dogs individually.

~  No kennel license shall be issued or renewed until the premises have been inspected and approved by the Animal Control and/or Board of Health.
