The War Memorial Committee Mission Statement:

The Town of Lynnfield’s War Memorial Committee has a mission find a suitable piece of town real-estate for the future location of the town’s War Memorial honoring service members and their families, submit for approval a design to the Town Selectmen, and to raise money through donations, fund raisers, grants, for the construction of the project, and a Memorial Maintenance Endowment Fund to maintain the memorial preservation.

The Town of Lynnfield’s War Memorial is a monument to honor the memory of Lynnfield’s men and women who demonstrated a willingness to serve and fight to defend our way of life from all wars to the present, and the future. The War Memorial Committee is to ensure that the Town of Lynnfield Veterans Memorial in our town will be maintained in perpetuity, even in those times when public funds are scarce or not available for maintenance or repair; to assist with ceremonies at the Memorial honoring all those who have served; as well as to enhance the Memorial with the design of Remembrance listing all those who made the ultimate sacrifice, those who served in the armed forces, and to keep a people free from those who challenge our way of freedom. To campaign for and support as possible, greater emphasis on fostering an enhanced historical patriotic perspective on the importance of the Town’s War Memorial and its' impact on world events past, present and future.

Purpose
The purpose of the Town’s new War Memorial Committee is to present to the Town’s Selectmen a design for approval to build a war memorial. Honoring America's veterans and members of its military forces by memorializing the sacrifices they have made and by recognizing the sense of duty and the courage they have displayed as they answered their country's call to arms. Fulfillment of this purpose also results in educating present and future generations about the dangers to which free societies are exposed, the responsibilities inherent in citizenship, and the enormous costs of freedom. Because Americans will have to pay the price of freedom for generations to come, the commission’s objective is to be progressive and dynamic as it fulfills its purpose to honor past, current, and future generations of military service members with a new War Memorial. This memorial will serve not only a place of reflection and solitude, but also a place of educating.

Vision Statement
The vision of the Town’s War Memorial Committee is to have a place of dignity, reflection, and education, paying tribute to its veterans and extended families, as well as increasing public awareness in which United States Armed Forces have fought and paid the ultimate sacrifice. A guiding principal of the Committee will always be that military service is to be honored and respected, because until humanity achieves peace, the preservation of freedom will depend largely upon the convictions, the courage, and the heroism of members of the United States military services.

Values of the Committee
Values that underlie the Committee's Mission are as follows:

We in this country owe a great debt of gratitude to those and our families who sacrificed their lives so that we could live free. We can start to pay that debt by not forgetting, but by remembering what they did and what they stood for.

At this site, we must have a place to stop and consider the great sacrifices that others have made so that we may have the freedom and prosperity we enjoy. Let us consider what those valiant warriors were fighting for…and let us honor each and every one of them…with a place of education and eternal remembrance.

Freedom is fundamental for human progress and happiness and for the preservation of civilization and we will honor those who gave so much through place of honor and respect.

The men and women of the United States military deserve to be honored, remembered, and appreciated for their vital role in the preservation of freedom throughout the history of this nation.

We live in an area where our country’s fight for freedom all began, one of the most patriot areas in the country. War Memorials can serve as a dynamic force in society by showing the impact that war has on society. The most tragic impacts are loss of human life and the maiming of countless others in body and spirit. If a memorial can show those tragic impacts, powerfully enough, it can contribute to the pursuit of a peaceful world.

The purpose of the Committee is achieved primarily by supporting the mission of the Town’s new War Memorial. Operation of the memorial helps fulfill the Committee’s purpose by providing a memorial to all service members and their families, people of the town, and a those who visit our town that serves as a place for reunion, reflection, healing and sharing of experiences; for educational displays; for Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies; and as a venue for other patriotic events. Adequate funding being necessary to accomplish its purpose, the committee will obtain funds for continuation of its support efforts through grants, donations, membership fees, and innovative fund-raising projects and mechanism.

End State of the Commission:

The end state of the War Memorial Committee mission is to get several design nominations for a final construction design, as well as a suitable piece of town real-estate for the future location of the town’s War Memorial that will honor service members and their families. The Committee will present numerous submittals of a final War Memorial design to the Town Selectmen, for a final approval with cost. The Committee is also proposing different ideas in an effort to raise money for the construction and maintenance of the memorial site. These fund raising efforts will be through possible donations, fund raising activities, grants, and a Memorial Maintenance Endowment Fund to maintain the memorial preservation. The Committee will present a timeline for a potential ground breaking to completion of the project. The Committee will also provide information sharing and information distribution that can be established prior to the final approval to the Town’s Selectmen to be posted on the town’s website. The committee will also recommend the criteria to have a name placed on the memorial from a service’s member’s perspective that is fitting to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice, and ways to show the gratitude of those who served with honor and distinction.
