Lynnfield’s Cademartori participates at PIE (Parker, Ipswich, Essex Rivers watersheds) annual meeting.

PIE provides forum to advocate for protection of resources in and around Lynnfield
PIE annual meeting 2023

Emilie Cademartori, Director of Planning & Conservation, was invited to attend the Dec. 7 PIE Rivers Partnership Annual Meeting. The PIE Rivers Partnership includes 29 North Shore communities that work to protect, restore and increase the resiliency of the Parker, Ipswich and Essex River watersheds. Cademartori is Lynnfield's representative to PIE.

Presentations included topics important to Lynnfield, such as invasive species management, water supply resiliency, dam and culvert management, and others. An area of concern highlighted a need for more of a geographic balance, as many of the large-scale federal funding grants that the PIE-Rivers Partnership have won in the past have been focused on coastal areas. Attendees emphasized that the partnership should also focus on the upstream and freshwater parts of the 3 watersheds.

Cademartori is also a Lynnfield representative for the North Shore Water Resilience Task Force (NSWRTF), which also provided a presentation at the meeting. In 2022, Lynnfield and 17 other North Shore cities and towns, signed the first Charter Agreement of the North Shore Water Resiliency Task Force focused on protection of the water supply and ecosystem health of the Ipswich River Watershed. The Task Force is led by Senator Bruce Tarr, and is convened by all 24 members of the State Legislative delegation that serve these communities, and supported by 26 official stakeholder organizations.

The NSWRTF will convene next in January 2024.
