Eagle Scout candidate Jack Mackey nears completion of project at Beaver Dam Brook Reservation

Project includes restoration of trails network, mapping and signage
Jack Mackey Eagle Scout project

Eagle Scout candidate Jack Mackey is nearing completion of his Eagle Scout project at Beaver Dam Brook
Reservation. Beaver Dam Brook Reservation is almost 200 acres of forested open space in the very
center of Lynnfield with a long history of enjoyable passive recreation opportunities for residents.

In Fall 2022, Mackey approached the Conservation Commission with his project proposal for restoration
of the Reservation. His proposal included re-mapping of the entire area, maintenance of existing trails,
establishment of new trails and connection points, and installation of trail signage and wetland
crossings. Jack is shown in this photo with one of the double-plank wetland crossings he designed and
built.

Jack hopes to complete his project before starting his Junior year in September. To highlight Jack’s work,
Steve Fantone from the Open Space & Recreation Plan WORKING GROUP led one of his community walks through the reservation on August 26. This was an excellent opportunity to learn about the historical significance of this important open space and to see the many improvements that Jack has made to the property.
