In yet another town-wide polling of what residents want for their community, walking trails, bike trails, and recreational opportunities are at the top of the list. Notably, survey responses from the recent Lynnfield 2040: Shaping Our Future Today visioning plan mirror results from a number of town-wide surveys since 1998, including three (3) Open Space & Recreation Plans, the 2002 Master Plan and the Planning Board’s 2015 update to the Master Plan.

The Lynnfield 2040: Shaping Our Future Today visioning plan summary was presented to the Planning Board on July 26, 2023. The print and digital survey received 855 responses and included topics encompassing transportation, open space, town infrastructure, economic development, housing, and land use.

Notably, 70% of survey respondents said that parks and trails were either “important” or “very important” to them.  Further, 51% of survey respondents said that the town’s parks and trails could use improvement.

A number of questions included opportunities for open-ended responses that provided additional valuable feedback.  And, many responses were received. Of the total survey's 415 separate open-ended responses, nearly 30% noted in some way their support for increased or strengthened walking trails, bike trails or recreational opportunities.
