With the snows gone, the DPW was able to clear the boardwalk of invasive plants, making way for residents and visitors to Reedy Meadow. Designated by the U.S. Park Service as a National Natural Landmark, Reedy Meadow is one of only 11 such landmarks in the State. Each year the Meadow attracts thousands of hikers, bird watchers, school groups and others who enjoy the peaceful surroundings and its native plant and animal species.

Under guidance from the DPW, Lynnfield Boy Scout Troop 48 followed the clearing effort with a clean-up day in early April. Troop 48 has had a long history of volunteering in and around Reedy Meadow and Partridge Island.

“It’s a beautiful area”, notes DPW Director John Tomasz. “This Spring we’re working with the Conservation Commission and the Massachusetts Audubon Society to rebuild parts of the boardwalk and to add signage. Lynnfield residents are lucky to have this gem in their backyard.”
