Lynnfield Planning & Conservation, DPW, LCWD and LWD partner to join the Greenscapes North Shore Coalition
Emilie Cademartori, Director of Lynnfield Planning and Conservation has announced the partnership of her department, the Department of Public Works, the Lynnfield Center Water District and the Lynnfield Water District to join the Greenscapes North Shore Coalition. Anchored by the Ipswich River Watershed Association, Salem Sound Coast Watch, Merrimack River Watershed Council and the 8 towns & Great Marsh Program, the Greenscapes North Shore Coalition includes 23 North Shore communities. The Coalition focuses its regional efforts in the two major categories of water quality and water conservation.
“Joining the Coalition provides us with a wider network of resources and technical assistance as we work to fulfil our federal stormwater obligations and pursue opportunities to improve our town wetlands and waterways”, says Cademartori. Lynnfield’s Town Engineer Charlie Richter adds that “the Greenscapes program provides a valuable educational opportunity for our residents, showing how everyone can have an impact on water quality and conservation.”
The Planning & Conservation Department, DPW and both water districts will be able to take advantage of significant program benefits including stormwater reduction efforts, water quality and conservation workshops, and, outreach and education plans for developers and residents. One such program, the Greenscapes Keeping Water Clean school program, is an interactive education experience for 5th grade students. “This program engages students in their classrooms and introduces them to the concepts of the natural water cycle, what happens to water that enters the storm drain, and how water flows in the local watershed”, notes Rob Almy, Chairman of the LCWD Board of Water Commissioners.
The Lynnfield Center Water District (LCWD) and the Lynnfield Water District work to provide reliable, cost-effective, high-quality water to Lynnfield’s residential and commercial customers. The Ipswich River Watershed Association works in partnership with communities, businesses, schools, and other organizations to protect the river.
