Leaves that clog storm drains can be quite harmful.

You can help by removing leaves from storm drains near your property!
leaves left in storm drain

Leaves that are dammed up at storm drains are a common sight in the Fall. These leaf dams have negative consequences for storm water. They:

  • Cause water back up and flooding onto streets and into basements.
  • Promote algae growth that leaks through drains into water supplies. Algae growth uses up dissolved oxygen needed downstream by fish and crab, causing declines in these populations.

You can help tremendously by removing the leaves that collect at the storm drains abutting your property.

Thank you!
