This webinar will showcase how the City of Chelsea will use the Mass. Greening the Gateway Cities program to launch a pilot program “A Tree Grows In Chelsea” and plant 2,400 trees this Spring to address stormwater runoff, flood risks, rising household heating and cooling energy use, and the health impacts of the urban heat island effect. Increasing the tree canopy with concentrated plantings in neighborhoods having minimal green space aim to benefit those most in need in the community.

All are invited to hear speakers from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts detail Chelsea’s and other communities’ efforts to improve green space access. Presenters are: Bob O'Connor – Director of Conservation Services, MA Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs, Mathew Cahill – Urban Forester, MA Department of Conservation and Recreation, Fidel Maltez – Commissioner, City of Chelsea Public Works and Ibrahim Lopez-Hernandez – Climate Justice Organizer, GreenRoots
