Prepare for heavy rains and winds tonight and tomorrow

Tuesday, January 9- Wednesday January 10

This evening and tomorrow, we are expecting heavy rainfall and high winds, which, in combination with the heavy snowfall of the past weekend, could result in flooding, tree damage and downed wires.

DO NOT GO NEAR DOWNED WIRES! If you see downed wires, please call 911. Dispatch will report the downed wires to the appropriate power company.

For non-emergencies, call police dispatch at 781-334-3131.

To report power outages, please call your electric provider:
Peabody Municipal Light Plant: 978-531-5975

Reading Municipal Light Department: (781) 942-6598 or use the online portal: https://www.rmld.com/home/webforms/report-outage

In preparation for the storm, we are asking residents to check and clear catch basins and storm drains near their property of snow and debris. Town crews are out clearing drains and catch basins as well, but help from residents is appreciated.

Residents should also:

  • Check any drains and drainage patterns around their houses, and consider clearing a path in the snow to direct water from the house.
  • Check sump pumps and generators to see if they are functioning
  • Charge cell phones
  • Raise items off the floor in basements
  • Clear snow from roofs if possible
  • Check on your neighbors if you think they may be in need of assistance
