Conservation staff begins new Stormwater maintenance notification & tracking system!

In November 2018, Conservation staff began a new notification and tracking system for Lynnfield property owners having stormwater maintenance requirements. Such properties are typically homeowners’ associations or commercial developments and municipalities, although an individual homeowner’s parcel may in fact include a stormwater maintenance structure.

Stormwater structures and associated stormwater Best Management Practices, or BMPs, are designed to prevent pollutants in stormwater runoff from entering surface waters. These pollutants, such as sediment, oil, grease and nutrients, can negatively impact streams, rivers, lakes, ponds, wetlands, wells, and may ultimately impact drinking water supplies. A BMP may present as a vegetated or stone - lined channel, constructed pond or a grassed depression. BMPs are required as part of Lynnfield’s local and Massachusetts’s state stormwater protection regulations.

BMPs may not function properly without regular maintenance. Further, forgoing routine up-keep may also lead to future additional, and potentially expensive, repair costs to the BMP and damage to personal property.
