Lynnfield’s Planning & Conservation Department joins MAPC sub-region in exploring the creation of an “Arts & Cultural Trail”!

Lynnfield’s Planning & Conservation Department has accepted an invitation to explore establishment of a regional arts & cultural “trail”. Organized by the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) sub-region of 9 neighboring communities, the “trail” would mark existing and developing visual arts and cultural venues/events in participating communities. The ultimate goals of this “trail” would be to attract residents and visitors, to promote local economic development, continued rejuvenation of community centers, and engagement of more citizens in civic life.

Many have expressed a desire for creating more of a sense of place similar to nearby towns that have embraced public art and culture successfully, such as Beverly, Somerville, Newburyport and others. This project also builds upon the momentum generated by Wakefield’s Albion Arts Corridor Cultural Economic Development Strategy created in partnership with MAPC in 2016-2017. The Town of Wakefield and its partners are developing the Albion Arts Corridor and its downtown into a thriving arts and culture destination.

Please stay tuned for updates. The proposal for this “trail” will be formalized in a grant application submitted to the State for project funding, Spring 2019.
