Asset mapping for Lynnfield community slated for Phase II
Cultural assets mapping

Representatives from Lynnfield Planning & Conservation and the Lynnfield Cultural Council participated in the Essex County-wide pilot Asset-Mapping kick-off on August 7, hosted by the Essex Country Community Foundation (ECCF) in partnership with the Barr Foundation, Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) and Merrimack Valley Planning Commission (MVPC).

This year-long cultural asset mapping pilot project will include 15 of the 34 cities and towns of Essex County. Upon satisfactory completion, asset mapping will extend to Lynnfield and the remaining communities in the county.

“Asset mapping” involves the identification and inventory of both tangible and intangible cultural assets. These assets can be “solid” elements like museums, galleries, murals, or parks. They can also be less identifiable such as a special tract of natural environment which encourages particular types of cultural activities. Cultural assets are shared and creative, and are well regarded as valuable to a community.

Arts and culture form the foundation for safe, vibrant, healthy, and connected communities that have included arts and culture in their community development and municipal planning. Data show that town and municipal planning that includes the arts results in significant economic gain and improved community identity and quality of life.
