Lynnfield's 5th Graders to participate in 2-day "Keeping Water Clean" program!

Greenscapes North Shore Coalition Enhances 5th Grade Science Curriculum
Keeping Water Clean - 5th graders and Greenscapes

In continuing the Town’s partnership with the Greenscapes North Shore Coalition Lynnfield 5th graders will participate in an educational 2-day "Keeping Water Clean" program. This program is scheduled for April 27 and 28 and is a Massachusetts Science Standard Program that meets 4 science state curriculum standards.

The Keeping Water Clean program is an in-school discovery centered on human impacts to both fresh and saltwater systems. Students rotate through numerous stations with hands-on activities and take-home lessons. Topics include watershed dynamics, groundwater flow, stormwater management, plastics in the ocean, wastewater treatment and water conservation.

Town Engineer Charlie Richter notes that “the program is perfectly designed for 5th grade students, as it fits into their science standards when they are learning about the water cycle and other earth science fundamentals.”

In July, 2019, Lynnfield joined the Greenscapes North Shore Coalition of 23 cities and towns. The Planning & Conservation Department, DPW, and both Lynnfield water districts can take advantage of significant program benefits including stormwater reduction efforts, water quality and conservation workshops, and, outreach and education plans for developers and residents.
