Planning and Conservation Office

LAND USE ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT

Part-Time – Up to 19.5 hrs/week

Grade 2 – Step 1-5 Rate: $25.01 - $28.22

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Land Use assistant performs duties necessary to provide day-to-day assistance to the Director of Planning and Conservation, Conservation Commission and Planning Board to assure efficient and professional operation of the Department.

  • Administrative/clerical support to the Director of Planning and Conservation.
  • Receptionist duties, including telephone coverage and answering general questions and giving information to people visiting the office regarding procedures, zoning, permits and land use regulations.
  • Conservation Commission and Planning Board meeting preparation, including filing processes, member packets, meeting agendas, posting requirements, legal notices, etc.
  • Maintain Department bills and accounts receivable, maintaining financial records.
  • Administer Department webpage, including general & educational content, and meeting information.
  • Collaborate with Director to create educational and marketing materials.
  • Attend Conservation Commission and Planning Board evening meetings, take and transcribe minutes. Meetings average 3 hours, at least twice monthly, but can be more frequent when needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Minimum 2 years work experience in a public or private professional setting
  • Thorough knowledge of computer technology, including Microsoft Word, Excel, working with data bases, and GIS.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication, organizational, time management, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to learn the Local and State laws and regulations relating to land use and conservation

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • The ability to sit for extended periods of time
  • The ability to write legibly, type and keep records
