Lynnfield residents are encouraged to continue their hunt for the caches in the Lynnfield Tree Committee’s “Tree-O-Cache” tree treasure hunt. And, the announcement of the Grand Prize – a beautiful Sweetbay Magnolia may be just the encouragement you need!

The Sweetbay Magnolia (Magnolia virginiana) is an exceptionally fragrant native flowering tree. It has glistening dark green leaves with a silver underside. Its creamy white flowers are long-lasting and are visible in late spring through early summer. The Sweetbay is elegantly shaped and a good choice for a specimen or patio tree. It is also tolerant to wet sites, such as pond edges and low areas in a landscape. It thrives in either sun or part-shade, and can reach a mature height of 30-35 feet.

Grab your GPS tracker or smartphone and input the coordinates to locate all caches. The coordinates – and their hints – can be found here on the Lynnfield Conservation Commission webpage at https://www.town.lynnfield.ma.us/conservation-commission . This is a fun treasure hunt for all ages! All six caches can be located in one day or spread out however you’d like. Each time you find a cache, snap a selfie with the special item found at each location and email it to the Tree Committee. This enters you into the contest for the prizes, and each selfie that you send is another chance of your winning a prize!
