Learn how to protect your family from pesticides’ health risks and develop a plan for natural lawn care on Wednesday, March 20, 2019. At 7 p.m. That evening, the Lynnfield and Wakefield Conservation Commissions and the Lynnfield Pesticide Awareness Committee will sponsor “Secrets to a Healthy Lawn,” a free workshop open to residents of Lynnfield, Wakefield and surrounding communities. The event will take place in the Joseph Maney Hearing Room/Selectmen’s Room of Lynnfield’s Town Hall at 55 Summer Street.

Presented by professional horticulturist Chip Osborne, workshop attendees will learn how to minimize the dangers of pesticides found in conventional lawn care products and build a safe, simple, step-by-step alternative plan for lawn and garden maintenance. Topics covered include soil health, watering, re-seeding, fertilizers, and natural pest and weed control techniques and will be followed by a question-and-answer session. This workshop will review best practices for both do-it-yourselfers and those looking to engage a professional landscaper.

Chip Osborne is co-founder of the “Living Lawn Project” in Marblehead and owner of Osborne’s Organics, LLC. He has 20 years’ experience creating safe, sustainable, and healthy athletic fields and landscapes through organic turf management and 35 years’ experience as a professional horticulturist. Over the years, Mr. Osborne’s experience with conventional pesticides led him to realize their health risks, leading to a shift to a safer, natural approach. Under his guidance, Marblehead’s lush organic playing fields have become the gold standard. Mr. Osborne speaks to groups nationwide and consults with organizations ranging from the National Parks Department to local school districts.
